From a Notebook, 1 January

A small piece for solo piccolo on the perceptual threshold of a recognizable regular tempo, with at least three areas of notational ambiguity — grace notes, lipped glissandi, and varied levels of vibrato (speed? width?) — for the player to consider.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the instruction not to subdivide. I wrote a piece in 2/2 with a tempo of 24 and when all the singers started to subdivide, it through the entire feel of the piece off. Long stretches of time should be honored.
