Blogging the Continentals

In high school, we used to play the No Exit Game, imagining -- in the spirit of Sartre's play -- the pair of people we'd least like to spend eternity with. I've become somewhat less evil with age (though still far too evil to rest), and now I play the Imaginary Musical Blogging Heads Game, partnering pairs of favorite musical bloggers. The current pair, I'd really like to see go at loggerheads is composed of Patrick Swanson of Tears of a Clownsilly and Nico Muhly, who blogs under his own dot-com, occasioned by this post of Muhly's and this one by Swanson: gentleman, whatof continental philosophy? Gloves off.

Ha I didn't notice this till today. I saw nico muhly in the flesh and I think we both are sweet hearts who would shy away from a fight. I love his music, so I'd avoid dissing post-structuralism or whatever in fear that he'd hit me over the head with some big William Byrd score.

Different strokes for different folks.

That is an evil game. And oddly enough, I agreed with both Swanson and Muhly. Making fun of deconstruction theory is stupid, but not as stupid as much of what passes for deconstruction theory. The godawful language alone...

Patrick, Mike (Boy, that sounds like the beginning of one of those two Irishmen sat down at a bar stories...):

My idea was entirely positive -- the best Bloggingheads are those in which the participants have complementary positions but get along famously, civil and productive -- and I thought that Muhly and Swanson seem to fit that picture. As Patrick puts it, a couple of sweethearts...).

I forgot that you are a fan of Bloggingheads-I watch a lot too. I never miss one of those Science Saturday ones with Horgan and Johnson. Great stuff.

We should start that music bloggingheads thing. I would be pretty scared to go up against you, though. You would expose my dreadful ignorance!
